La comprensión lectora es una habilidad fundamental en el éxito académico y en el desarrollo profesional. Diferentes estudios han evidenciado un preocupante deterioro de esta habilidad en los jóvenes. Por otro lado, la creciente penetración de los medios digitales en los hábitos de lectura de las nuevas generaciones puede afectar la comprensión de textos expositivos. Por lo tanto, es importante identificar los factores cognitivos y las variables individuales que contribuyen a la variabilidad en la comprensión de textos y estudiar el impacto que la presentación de textos en diferentes medios puede tener sobre la comprensión de los estudiantes universitarios. De este modo, surge la necesidad de identificar vínculos específicos entre el rendimiento de lectura en papel y pantallas y los hábitos de lectura en medios tradicionales y digitales para una mejor comprensión del fenómeno.
Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill for academic success and professional development. Different studies have shown a worrying deterioration of this skill in young people. On the other hand, the increasing penetration of digital media in the reading habits of new generations may affect the comprehension of expository texts. Therefore, it is important to identify the cognitive factors and individual variables that contribute to variability in text comprehension and study the impact that presenting texts in different media may have on university students’ comprehension. Thus, there is a need to identify specific links between reading performance on paper and screens and reading habits in traditional and digital media for a better understanding of the phenomenon.
